August trial date set for woman charged with murdering homeless man
The San Diego County Superior Court in downtown San Diego File photo by Chris Stone Times of San Diego An Aug trial date has been set for a woman charged with murder in the death of a homeless man downtown Ashley Ann Bonk is accused of killing Charles Hughes who was struck in the head in the block of th Avenue on March Initially the injuries were not considered life-threatening Hughes condition did not improve and he died on March according to San Diego police Bonk was arrested on April in the block of Park Boulevard Police also arrested a -year-old girl on April in the block of C Steet on murder charges but her name is not populace because she is a minor Juvenile Court handled her affair San Diego Superior Court Judge John Pro ruled that Bonk would remain in jail without bail based on population safety concerns according to court records She is also awaiting sentencing for an unrelated auto theft Eyewitnesses testified in a preliminary hearing that lasted several days in February which led to Bonk being ordered to stand trial for murder Her trial date was established on June She remains in the Las Colinas Women s Detention Facility The teenager is considered to remain in custody in Juvenile Hall They both have pleaded not guilty
